Why we're getting behind Jodie Stimpson and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local triathlete, Jodie Stimpson as she attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Jodie Stimpson trains locally in Birmingham. Oldbury born Jodie Stimpson has been swimming since the age of 4 and at just 9 years old won her first triathlon. ‘I started swimming for my local club, Oldbury Swimming Club, when I was just 4 years old. It was here where my dad, Ian, taught me how to swim my first width! I was entered into the Milk Series held at Appleby, near the Lake District, when I was 9 years old and ended up winning my first triathlon. At this age I wasn't too worried about whether my glasses were taped to my helmet or my equipment was in the correct place, all I wanted to do was make my dad proud, the competitor in me came out even at 9 years old!’

‘I am really grateful to Sytner Oldbury and BMW for their support,’ said Jodie Stimpson. ‘It's tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it's a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It will be fantastic to have a brand new BMW 1 Series. There's a lot of travelling to competitions and promotional events so it's great being able to arrive there in style.’
